Breakfast in the Hamptons.
Well, I did it. I left Los Angeles to go to graduate school in Connecticut. While I’ll be spending weekdays working away in Darien, I’m hoping to spend most of my weekends with Roman. This weekend was my first visiting him on Long Island. I took the Bridgeport/Port Jefferson Ferry and arrived in Port Jefferson Saturday evening. After wine tasting in downtown Port Jeff., we headed to dinner at The Fifth Season. We opted to sample several appetizers, mussels, mac & cheese, the vegetable & goat cheese tart and a cheese plate. As we ate, a young, three-piece band played a fast version of “In the Mood” and later “Black Hole Sun”.
While Saturday’s dinner was delicious, Roman and I got creative with the bag of potatoes he garnered from running the Sound to the Bay 10K for Sunday’s dinner. We paired our mashed potatoes with roasted local zucchini, yellow summer squash & corn. We also made bruschetta with fresh basil and heirloom tomatoes.
To finish the wonderful weekend of food, we went to the Hampton Coffee Company for breakfast this morning. They served quite possibly the best pancakes I’ve ever had. They came with a fruit salad on the side and a hot blueberry topping. The blueberries were most likely from a farm stand down the street.
I can’t wait to take the ferry to Port Jeff again to of course see Roman, but also to have a chance at getting more of those pancakes.
