The Love Cake (a.k.a. my favorite birthday cake)
I know it is probably sacrilegious to make your own birthday cake…and maybe that’s why it has backfired for me for the last two. Last year’s attempt to make the marzipan cake failed and this year, my cake fell apart.
The chocolate cake that my Mom has made famous in our family and among our friends isn’t too difficult, but it is time consuming, and therefore, “The Love Cake”. I think my friend Allyson dubbed it that when I told her how long it takes to make. Because the cake takes so long, if you’re making it for someone, you must love them.
This cake has three layers of chocolate cake with vanilla flavored whipped cream between the layers and chocolate icing on the outside.
So after four hours of baking, when the top layer of the cake had a huge crack in it I was pissed. Despite the huge crack, it still tasted great.
